Arc Rise Fantasia Review

for this morning, i just do a quick review of arc rise fantasia for wii. i can’t do a complete review since there’re some feature that haven’t been unlocked yet. i won’t be putting any screenshot because i can’t capture it and i’m too lazy to search it in the internet. you can see the video below though.

from wiki of course:

Arc Rise Fantasia is set in the Meridian Empire. Creatures called “Contaminant Dragons” are causing a lot of trouble as they pass the Meridian in flocks. If one is killed, the resulting explosion poisons the local area. When the empire receives word that a massive horde has its sights on the capital of Diamant, it immediately sends out an army to fight them, including L’Arc, a cool and collected novice mercenary, and his friend Arth, the beloved prince and second in line for the throne. L’Arc is severely injured during the battle, but is saved by a girl named Ryfia, who has secrets in her past and possesses the power to control “ley squalls,” naturally occurring storms of magic that usually take the form of luminous rain. A young woman named Adelle, who has been a friend of L’Arc since childhood, renders assistance to the party through use of her unique form of magic, Luminomancy.

Other characters include Cecil, an insanely strong purple-haired girl, Sarge, an orange-haired dagger fighter, Lesley, a pink-haired gunslinger, Clyde, a general who wields an axe, and Nikol, a young redhead sharpshooter who follows L’Arc like a lost brother.

when you play arc rise fantasia, it feels somewhat like a classic RPG. the battle is turn-based. it uses a shared AP (i presume it shorts for Action Point). so you choose only 1 character to do all the action or you can distribute it equally. the basic is kinda similar to the last remnant. first, you choose all the action for the characters, and then you execute the choosen action. for attack, it will executed immediately. and for magic ( i don’t what the term for this game, it written in kanji), there’s some delay to cast the magic. the MP system for this game is kinda unique. rather than using normal MP gauge (like 100 MP for a character), it divide the MP based on the level of the magic. there are 4 level of magic. and the MP gauge isn’t increasing as you level up. but you need to upgrade it on a shop. they also don’t user big numbers for MP gauge. for example, heal is only using 1 MP. and the gauge is only 3. the magic system also kinda similar to Final Fantasy X, it uses like sphere grid system. but the magic is depend on the sphere, rather than the slot. the weapon is upgradable also, the system is called Armforce. you can attach the weapon with some armforce to modify the weapon. the weapon also is upgraded when you leveled up. i still haven’t unlocked the trinity attack, the latest i unlocked is excelact (just random translation from the katakana, i can’t guarantee it 100% right). basically it’s like special attack, you need to gather SP first by attacking the enemy, after you have enough, than you can choose which one do you want to use.

Score: 75

the graphic for the game is pretty good. the game is also quite colorful. character design is by Yoshida Ken’ichi, the character designer of Eureka Seven. the game is also delivered in 16:9 ratio and you cannot change it. what i like about the game is the loading time is very fast, sometime it feels like there’s no loading at all. the changing from world map to battle is very fast. when you begin a new game, there will some cutscene and then you go to the battle, there are no loading at all.

Score: 70

i like the theme song:

the BGM for the game is also quite nice. i still haven’t find musics that i like

Score: 65

Overall Score: 70

i personally give it a higher score since RPG is very rare for wii and RPG is my favorite genre. i really recommend this game for RPG lover. currently the selling of arc rise fantasia is number 4 in japan

that’s all for this morning, i’ll update this blog late on the afternoon(if i remember and in the mood)

  1. You’re ESL, aren’t you?

    • well, yeah. but my english has decreased since watched and hear japanese. not to mention japanese games also

  2. It’s now out in US! Hope this game arrive in europe soon 🙂

But the biggest RPG in this console generation, besides the disappointing Final Fantasy 13, are Xenoblade, The Last Story and Dragon Quest X. All exclusive for the Wii. Hopefully we see Xenoblade soon in US and Europe.
